A few days ago I was looking for a birthday present for my brother. His birthday was actually a couple of weeks back, but we hadn't managed to get together yet, and we usually do a combined celebration anyway, as mine is exactly two weeks after his.
Anyway, while looking through musical DVDs in Wal-Mart, and eventually picking out a Queen concert for him, I made an astonishing discovery: A DVD of a concert version of the musical Chess.
I grabbed it. There was no question in my mind that I had to have it. Chess is one of my favorite musical works, and the fact that there was a video of a version I'd not heard of before was nothing short of miraculous.
I watched it last night, and not to put too fine a point on it, I was blown away. Read the rest of this entry »
